6/11/2010 Welcome to the Porch Party!

UD Reunion Weekend
Rieds AmphitheaterWe came, we played. They talked, they drank...let's hit Milanos and then Tim's.

Thanks for having us - we hope you all got home safe!

6/5/2010 Forgive me Father for I have...ROCKED!

St. Ignatius Pig Roast
Fr. Pete Stage

Well, we did it again. We played music for a bunch of people and they drank too much and had way too much fun...and we did too! After the weather cooled off a little (1st set was really hot!) we got down to business and played 2 more sets of fun. Had many guests on stage (thanks to MM & Padre Pete for jamming with us again this year!) There was the annual pole climb...dancing...singing...and general good times. Raised some money and had some fun...and yum yum pig!

Always a great time...but what happened to the after party?

6/4/2010 Is that a Brat or are you just happy to see me?

St. Jude Festival
Bulldog Stage

Another year, another great evening at St. Jude. Weather was perfect, beer was cold, rides were smooth, food was hot. Had a great time entertaining the young and old with a few sets of good time rock and soul. As always, last part of the night is for the workers...there was less participation this year...getting old folks? Might have been from the bruising the previous year. Either way a big thanks to all who let us play every year...we sure enjoy ourselves and hope everyone had a great time!

People I need to tell you something...
I'm talking to you and you and you...
What song is Vance playing?
And the crowd goes WILD!

5/29/2010 Eat.Play.Drink.Eat. Play...repeat

Taste of Cincinnati
Government Sq. Stage

Always an interesting time when you play downtown Cincinnati at dinner time. Heat was hot, beer was cold, crowd was great (except for the dummy who fell on the little girl while attempting to dance...not cool dude...hope they Tased you bro!)

Played a great mix of tunes and had a packed house by the time we finished. Pulled out some old favorites and let the drummer do his thing for the 1st time in a long while. Amps were blowing and the drinks were flowing...then just when we got warmed up we were done. Too bad, because we had a lot more left in us. See next year --- we hope!

5/14/2010 Taste Every Moment

Angelman Walk - T. Berry Park
Kendall Stage

What a great time we had. Jay, Brian and Greg played a very special show for the Angelman Syndrome Walk. This is the 2nd year of the walk and the 2nd year we've played for them. The crowd doubled this year for the walk and we played a little extra for them. We really enjoy doing this show not just because we can pull some songs out we never get to play (Puff, Don't Let Me Be Lonely, Time of My Life) but because it really is great to be able to give our time for such a great event. These kids are so full of joy and have to fight every day. And the parents need a few hours like this just to listen to some tunes, be with friends and enjoy the great weather. Be there next year!

5/14/2010 You Remember Me?

Maifest
Big Bell Stage
Opened Maifest to a small but appreciative crowd. Slowly things picked up, but it was a much different show than last year - not as many Canadians that's for sure! We had a great time and had our some of our friends from the hood dropped by again this year. Started the weekend in a great way. Not often we get to play "Sunshine" while the sun is out!

5/1/10 Fat Bottom Girls

The Dog Haus - Delhi
Jay and Greg unplugged

For those of you who were there, you should probably read this entry...I mean really, adults should not act this way. Without telling stories, let's just say a few of you had a terrible Sunday (and probably Monday!) Thanks to everyone who came out to see what (so far) was a once in a lifetime experience. Jay had not done a solo show in years and brought Greg along to cover the empty spots. We had a great turn out and played some songs we've never played, some that hadn't been out of the basket in 10+ years and a few that we didn't know we were going to play. Not many nights are you going to see and hear Queen, Randy Newman, Sammy Hagar and the Scooby Doo Theme all in one set...but it happens at a show like this...be there next time! Dog Haus just jumped to #36 on list of places to hang out in Delhi!

On the News...SJB on 9 News

A little something cool - we made the Ch. 9 news last night!

Check it out:
Sullivan Janszen Band Opens Party in the Park

4/21/10 Who's Sammy Hagar?

Party in the Park 2010 Opening Night
Brooks the Soundguy Stage

What a way to open the summer SJB season. A perfect night...great music, great crowd, cold beer, good eats and various people showing off their "summer teeth." Thanks to all that came out for the fun. Played 3 sets of music with lots of requests in the 3rd set. Added some new tunes in that we've been working up (Train, Mraz, Guess Who) and had a few party fouls, but that's to be expected. You can't come right out of spring training hitting homers every at bat...there will be some foul balls. But the home runs were flying by the 2nd set!

It seems like every year there is something new that we see at PIP...this year a fan asking for Sammy Hagar after almost every song in the 1st set (not that there is anything wrong with that!) Had a great time wishing happy b-day to the next generation of Sullivan too. If you missed it, you missed. For those who made it and huge THANKS!

Looking forward to a great summer!

OLD Pics

As we enter our 20th year of playing together we are trying to archive as much as we can. We have a few tings from the way back, but hope that you can help us find more. So look around and let us know if you have any old pictures of the band or that were taken at shows. We would love any from private parties or Crow Nest (or Blue Note or Millions!) So, if you have any old pics of Sullivan and Janszen from way back please send us a copy to:

We'll give you credit or not post at all if you like!

Here are a few old one for you:

9/26/09 It’s Raining Again

Babes for Boobs
Dom’r and Frank Stage

If it is not obvious by now, we like boobs. What could have been bad, turned out great. We were really excited to help Babe’s raise money for breast cancer research and brought the whole band to the "little bar that could" to see what we could do. The Babe’s crew put together a great event (with dunking booth, hair cuts and all kinds of shots!) and we closed out the entertainment for the event. Lucky for our equipment they decided to raise some tents at the last minute. While the 1st set was dry, the rain started and made us change our plans. The drums were set outside the tent, so our MVP (Mr. Kurt!) made due with his bongos and other things that make sounds, and we decided to play an “unplugged” format for the rest of the night. Played lots of requests (was that John Denver?) and in general kept the crowd singing along and pushing each other to have a good time (in some cases a little too much.) Again, we were so glad to be a part of this event and hope to see everyone there next year.

9/19/09 You Get the Best of Both Worlds

PRG WiffleBall Party

Tracy’s Scooter Stage

With a move to Kuliga Park this year came and even better and bigger crowd than the past few years. This annual fundraiser for breast cancer survivors has turned into one of the biggest family fun parties of the year. We did our almost all request night and honestly played everything from Hannah Montana to ACDC to Yankee Doodle. While our teams did not fair as well this year, lots of homers were hit (both during and after the party!) and we did our part to help raise money for the PRG. We obviously weren’t “quitters” as we played a short set to end the night for all the volunteers. Special thanks to Steve the sound man for doing this event – you did a great job. Now, will someone please keep that mini Joni Mitchell off the stage?

9/13/09 Hear That Bengal Growling…

Harvest Home Fest

Elvis Sullivan Stage

SJB closed out the biggest little festival in the land with some help from the loyal folks. After 3 days of drinkin beer, eatin fried dough and touching livestock, it was a night for the faithful. We followed up the biggest little Elvis in the Tri-State with a set that had the cows heading home (literally!) Had some great stage visits from the SJB cloggers (and singers) and tried to do our best to keep the crowd happy. Of special note, we played “Touchdown Bengals” after their freak loss to the Broncos and got booed. Yep, booed. Wouldn’t it be funny if they won in the last minute next week or the week after?

8/15/09 It’s Not Easy Being Green

Green Twsp. Summer Concert Series Winkler Stage

The Dancer!

After a long night of sleep we were ready to go again. This time we played a set for a huge crowd before the Rusty Griswolds. Another hot night and another really fun crowd. We heard there were some sound issues the 1st couple songs, but that just made us sound even better once it was fixed. We played a more classic rock set and left the 80’s to the Rustys. Best comment of the night “This is the greatest high school back yard party for adults…ever!” Huge thanks to the Green Township trustees and employees who put on a great night and could not have been better hosts. Mark your calendar for next year because we’ll probably do it again.

AIR GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

8/14/09 Desire…to play some more!

Union Center Blvd. Bash Clock Tower Stage

CROWD SHOTS

To start a crazy music filled weekend we decide to play a 2 hour set before our new best friends, The Gin Blossoms. While it was a small crowd to start things, things got more and more crowded as the night went on. Now here’s where things got crazy. After playing 2 hours in the sun and as we were playing the last notes of “Send Me On My Way” the sound guys ask if we can play 45 more minutes! After a quick water and bathroom break, we head out for another set and the crowd was awesome! That 2nd set had the crowd dancing and really getting wild. Thanks so much to all the folks who supported SJB at UCBB again this year.

8/8/09 Welcome Back VisiFest

The Sunny Stage

Couldn’t have asked for a better gig after our summer vacation break. After we set up in melting conditions, the sun went down and then fun began. VisiFest is always one of the best festivals in Cincinnati and we love playing it each year. Pulled out a few premiers and requests (Surrender, Some Kind of Wonderful) and had a few special guests sit in throughout the night (Tommy really loved the stage!) The crowd was great and we especially loved to folks working the beer and various meat booths (great dancing again this year from the meat booth men!) We look forward to seeing you there next year and continuing to get enlightening advice from the audience. Pictures courtesy of KC.

JULY 2009 - Vacation Time

For those of you checking in...we usually take almost all of July off for family vacations and dance lessons. Get ready for a great August & September!
